Pediatric Volumes Strong
The St. Louis Children's Hospital (SLCH) Pediatric Emergency Department at Progress West HealthCare Center is popular with the families in St. Charles County:
-
In its first nine days, the ED treated 45 pediatric patients -- 30 percent of the total
-
In March 2007, 255 pediatric patients were seen -- 33 percent of the total
-
Between April 1 and April 29, 306 pediatric patients received treatment -- 36 percent of the total
-
Over the last year, pediatrics account for 34 percent of all patients seen each month
"Parents really appreciate the convenience of the Progress West location," says Jean Stroud, RN, BSN, manager, SLCH pediatric off-site services. "They appreciate knowing that their children are receiving care from St. Louis Children's Hospital physicians and Progress West pediatric nurses 24/7."
Most Progress West pediatric patients are treated for accidental injuries, asthma, dehydration and respiratory illness. Acutely ill patients or those needing more intensive services are transferred to SLCH.
"Knowing that the resources of Children's Hospital are available for their family is another source of comfort," says Stroud.
Pediatric Urology Services Available
Pediatric services at Progress West HealthCare Center now include urology.
Douglas Coplen, MD, director, Pediatric Urology, SLCH, offers urology services on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. Mary Campigotto, NP, is available to counsel on elimination issues.
