Carson Agee, MD, removed my gall bladder Monday morning. I had the best experience I've ever had with a hospital and so did my waiting family. Linda, my pre/post-op nurse was amazing to all of us. I received a card in the mail with a personal note from her, signed by the rest of the staff. Thank you for making patient care such a high priority.
------
My wife needed an emergency appendectomy last week. We were thoroughly pleased with the staff at your Hospital. From Scott -- who was working the ED desk at 2:30 a.m. -- to the nursing staff and doctors. Everyone was accommodating and professional. We would like to pass on our thanks and gratitude to Jerad Miller, MD, Laurel Yeager, MD, and Carlos Puyo, MD. We are especially appreciative of the nursing staff including Steph, Yolie, Michelle, Stacy, Cindy, Shannon and Karman (I apologize if I have forgotten any other names). And thank you to John from clinical engineering for fixing the DVD player so my wife didn't have to suffer through any more daytime TV. In as difficult and scary a time as emergency surgery, it was nice to have a clean and friendly environment. We hope we don't have to come back anytime soon, but you are our new Hospital. Thank you.
------
Both of my visits to the ED were simply amazing. The admitting staff, the physicians, all ED staff, and everyone I encountered was great -- everyone has such a pleasant attitude. I felt compelled to let you know it doesn't go unnoticed. Keep up the fantastic work.
------
You've sure got the system down for the patient. Every single nurse and every single tech I encountered took excellent care of me. I also was pleased with Ronan Lev, MD, who performed my procedure.
------
Three patients -- who came to our office for follow-up after surgery at Progress West -- could not stop talking about the wonderful, caring and awesome staff there. They loved the atmosphere, cleanliness of the facility and professional experience. Some of these patients were hesitant about coming to a hospital because they felt it was for sick people and were concerned about being treated differently. This was not the case. Great job.
------
Well, I was in your ER Saturday morning. My son broke his leg. We received wonderful care there. Just wanted to let you know how great all of the staff was.
------
Other hospitals are closer but I choose to come here because I love it. My primary care physician is here, too.
------
It doesn't feel like a hospital.
------
I thought the service wouldn't be as good now that it's been open for awhile, but that hasn't been the case.
------
They treat you like you're special.
------
This is our preference for a hospital.
------
The food is good.

I was in your medical center for my first mammogram and needed to have a diagnostic mammogram. I was very nervous and very concerned that something might be wrong. Your staff here is amazing. Every person I came into contact with -- from check-in through the procedure -- was terrific, kind, friendly, personable and caring. I was so impressed. The woman who actually did the mammogram exam was the best. She was very considerate of how I tolerated the procedure, explained everything, laughed with me in my nervousness, and made me feel totally at ease. I know she is a professional and does this every day, but you just never know what frame of mind your patient is in. I am confident that she takes that into consideration and really goes the extra mile to care. After the exam I was pretty emotional and didn't get to tell her how great she is. Keep doing what you're doing and thank you.

I'm writing about my visit for surgery. I cannot tell you enough times how impressed I was. I have never been treated so well by any staff at any hospital. Carson Agee, MD, did my surgery and my nurse was Linda. Wonderful, just wonderful. The whole team in the OR was wonderful. You definitely should be proud. The last thing I heard was, "What time is it?" and the answer was "7:30" and that's what time my surgery was scheduled for. . . that has never happened before. We are switching doctors so we can use your Hospital. As we were leaving we learned that Linda drives a GMC Acadia and being a GM-employee-family . . . things couldn't get much better. Seriously, thanks so much. Your staff is truly an asset to the community. Linda was so great. I wanted to bring her home with me. Very friendly, patient, good communicator, explained everything very well and kept asking me if I was OK. I'm very scared of needles. She is wonderful as is everyone else.

For the second time in less than six months, I am writing to tell you how wonderful your facility and staff are. I gave birth there in February and my Ob/Gyn and pediatrician are both located in your doctor's building. Recently, my 4-month-old needed a lab test. Our pediatrician said we could come to the outpatient lab at our convenience. Wow, it was really at OUR convenience -- the lab is open 24/7 so we arrived in the evening and after a quick stop at the main desk we were called into the lab. We had the most pleasant experience with a young man named Tim, what a gem. You truly hire the best of the best. He was super nice to us and very caring with Madison. The test was fast and very little discomfort for her. Tim gladly gave us the number to the lab and said we could call anytime over the next few days to see if our results were in. Amazingly, the very next day our pediatrician called with the results, before I had a chance to call in. The communication between the Hospital and doctors is pheonomenal. This is the kind of service I have come to know and love at this Hospital. My husband and I are in search of a new primary care physician and there is no doubt we will be looking at doctors there first. Then, it will be one-stop shopping for us at Progress West HealthCare Center.

My daughter Madyson had surgery performed by George Bassett, MD, for a broken elbow. I cannot express how awesome the entire staff is in the Surgery Center, especially her nurse, Joy. She was super, super, super sweet and nurturing, and truly cared about Madyson's comfort. All the nurses who had contact with Madyson were always smiling and awesome. Dr. Bassett was super. My family thinks highly of him and his care of our little girl. Madyson was thrilled to have a follow-up phone call from Dr. Bassett the next day and was thrilled to talk with Joy again. As horrifying as it is for a child to have surgery, no matter how minor, the staff in the Surgery Center made it as pleasant of an experience as possible for Madyson, and we are eternally grateful.

We arrived at the Birthing Center for the most wonderful experience of our lives. I would like to specifically thank a few people who made those two days very special.
Nurse Pam was with me from the beginning, even though I wasn't her assigned patient. She kept me so strong and focused while waiting for my epidural. I would have never made it without her support. It was also special to have her as my nurse the day we were discharged. She has the most wonderful, caring bedside manner and a GREAT sense of humor.
Nurse Melissa evaluated me upon arrival and made us feel so comfortable. She was very reassuring and explained everything beforehand. Also, she was at my side during the birth of my daughter and she really motivated me to push. She was very caring with Madison. She even gave Madison her first bath.
Nurse Joanne comforted and watched over Madison in the nursery the entire day when she had to have a glucose IV. She is very knowledgeable about pre-term babies, and we appreciated that. Her experience is definitely an asset to the staff.
Carrie, Ruth, Lee, Tresa (I'm sure I'm missing some) were all WONDERFUL women and super supportive. Always there quickly with ice packs, pain meds or whenever we had questions. They were very caring with me and Madison.
The facility was very nice, clean and the food was way better than we expected. The complimentary tray for dads was so convenient. Even the folks who take the orders are friendly and fast.
All in all, everyone we encountered genuinely seemed like they love their jobs and that is important to us. I don't have anything to compare it to, but that doesn't matter . . . we are definitely coming back for number two.
Thanks for everything.

I am a sergeant with the O'Fallon Police Department assigned to the midnight shift. As such, I have had numerous opportunities to interact with your Emergency Department staff, and I have always been very impressed with their professionalism and kindness. It is therefore no surprise that when I recently needed to bring my wife to the ED, I knew that it was worth driving the extra distance to Progress West rather than going to the hospitals that are closer to where I live.
I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the way my wife and I were treated during her stay at Progress West Hospital. The staff was not only very professional, but extremely kind, courteous and caring.
During my wife's stay we had the opportunity to interact with staff from the ED, the 3rd floor, Radiology, Surgery, Dietary, Pharmacy and Facility Maintenance. Every single employee of the Hospital was incredibly friendly and obviously highly competent in their area of expertise. My wife and I were overwhelmed at how kindly we were treated, and very thankful for the great medical care she received.
I wish I had everyone's name so that they could be commended and thanked individually. Even though I do not have every staff member's name, I do have the following names of the nurses that provided us with such great care:
- ED nurses -- Tanja and Paul
- 3rd floor nurses -- Karen, Jo Beth, Nancy, Tina and Rike
- Surgery nurse -- Michelle
I want to again reiterate that EVERY staff member was terrific. This Hospital experience has been so unlike any other. It was so incredibly obvious that every single member of the staff was concerned about getting my wife healthy. She was not only treated as a patient, but more as a customer, and I was highly impressed with how I was treated as an important part of my wife's recovery.
I also want to tell you how comfortable my wife was thanks to all the amenities provided. All of the visitors she had commented about how clean and comfortable your Hospital was, to which my wife and I completely agreed. Even the delicious food helped to make her comfortable.
I could easily write a five-page letter detailing the facts and circumstances in which the Hospital staff went above and beyond in their care for my wife, as well as the way they treated me with such respect and kindness, however, for the sake of brevity, I just want close by letting you know that I will refer everyone I know to Progress West for any medical treatment they may need.
Please pass along my gratitude to your staff, and let them know that their kindness, professionalism and caring attitudes did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.

While at a party last week, a person was talking about her father's illness and that he had been in and out hospitals for the last year. She had all good things to say about PWHC. And her father now refuses to go to any other hospital. She has been very impressed with the type of care her father has received . . . how the doctors take time to sit with her dad and family and talk to them; how nice the nurses are; how good the food service is; how nice the room layout is, and more.
P.S. She had no idea I am a BJC employee.
------
I would really like to thank the two nurses named Linda on the second floor outpatient surgery. I came in very upset and frightened and they did an amazing job taking care of me. They are two very special women with great big hearts. Thank you so much for all your help.
My 2-year-old was admitted through the ED for a horrible case of croup. The level of care and concern given to him from the staff in the ED to the floor nurses to the food service employees was beyond exemplary. A doctor in the ED ran back in to check on us after she left, and the ED day nurse came up to the floor to check on our son later on her shift. Nancy, the first nurse to welcome us to our room, greeted us with books, movies, crayons, stickers and games to keep my son's mind off his illness and helped his sibling stay busy too. She was so compassionate and sincerely caring.
We also interacted with Meghan and Kim who were fabulous. Cheryl in food service gave us great one-on-one attention and made sure we had enough Popsicles, shakes and yummy burgers.
I was told by my pediatrician that he didn't have privileges there, but I honestly, in a heartbeat, would return in a minute should I or either of my kids require any level of care. Keep up the superb work. I cannot say enough great things about your facility and your amazing staff to all my family and friends.

Though I live in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, it recently became necessary to procure the services of an endocrinologist. With none being available in my hometown, I chose Dr. Carson Agee due to his close proximity to Lake St. Louis where I have family.
It has always been my contention that most people put more thought and research into who will repair their automobile than who will deliver health care services. I wasn't thrilled with the prospect of having heretofore unknown medical personnel diagnose and possibly perform a surgical procedure on me. But I must tell you, from my first encounter with the reception staff at Progress West to discharge; I was more than impressed with every facet of my inpatient stay.
In today's society, the personal touch has often become lost in the onward march toward state-of-the-art technology. Health care facilities and staff are no exception. Though the revolving door of patients and procedures is customary in hospitals, it is anything but routine for the patient and his or her family.
Progress West has refined the ability to provide professional services without losing the personal touch. Dr. Agee and his staff made me feel as though I was the only patient in their care. My surgery was successful and I am thankful to have encountered a physician as thorough and proficient as Dr. Agee.
While giving accolades I would also like to acknowledge Michelle, nurses Linda, Tammy and Kimberly for their warmth, prompt attention to my needs and sterling compassion. All of you, without exception, are first-rate. Also more than notable is the serene ambiance of all the surroundings and private patient rooms and the palatable repast.
Though no one welcomes health issues, I can assure you if I have future needs, I will return to Progress West and refer family and friends as well.
------
Today I had an outpatient procedure at your hospital and I wanted to pass along my compliments to your staff, especially Stacy, my nurse. She did a wonderful job of making sure I felt very comfortable. She went above and beyond to make the experience pleasant. I will consider Progress West as my hospital of choice thanks to her and my experience today. My compliments to her and the others at your hospital.
------
My baby just turned 9 months and we've since moved out of state, but I had to let you know what a phenomenal experience giving birth at Progress West was. It was absolutely wonderful, from the gorgeous birthing suites to the very friendly staff to the totally delicious menu -- it was amazing. I would have another baby just to go back to your Hospital. Honestly, I kept accidentally saying "my hotel room" instead of "my hospital room." I have raved about it ever since we had our baby. We were completely impressed with the quality of care and the comfortable environment. Gale and Kelly were my two main nurses during my stay, and they were fabulous. They were so friendly -- anticipating needs (like bringing a lot of towels) and took such good care of me and my family when they visited. I felt completely pampered. Everyone was so friendly -- from the housekeeping staff to the nutrition people. Even the guy who took my meal orders (I can't remember his name), was absolutely terrific. He was fun to talk to when he'd make suggestions or ask how I liked what I'd ordered last time. The food was amazing. So delicious. Awesome variety and completely yummy. It was a joy to be in your Hospital, and I'd recommend it to anyone. I only wish I still lived in the area so I could have my next baby there.
------
I wanted to write in and tell you what a great experience we had at the Progress West Emergency Department. We took our 11-month-old son in because of high fever. Dr. Paciorkowski was very thorough and was able to diagnose him with pneumonia even though it was in its early stages. Our nurse, Lynn, was absolutely wonderful. She continually checked in on us to see if we needed anything and made sure our baby boy was comfortable. I was overly impressed with her skills. Our son did need to get some blood work and have an IV port placed in his arm. Lynn took the time to look over both arms repeatedly to ensure she had the best spot. When it came time for the stick, it only took one time. I am a mother of four and that was the smoothest experience with a blood draw I have ever witnessed. I can not express enough gratitude to your nurses and doctors. I have been bragging to my co-workers about the absolutely fabulous experience we had. I hope you take the time out to recognize the talents of Lynn and Dr. Natalia. They truly care about each of their patients.
------
My husband and I would like commend your Emergency Department and staff for a job well done. Our 4-year-old daughter was recently sent to your facility for treatment of dehydration after several days with the stomach flu. We found the whole experience to be great from entry to the exit. This was our daughter's first experience in a hospital and she didn't seem to be scared during -- or after -- being there.
Our nurse should be commended for her wonderful bedside manner with parents and children. She took great care of our daughter and we are grateful.
Dr. McKinney was also very nice to our daughter and treated her with kindness and compassion. He was very reassuring to my husband and me and explained everything.
I hope we don't ever have to return to your hospital . . . but if we do, we will feel confident that the best care possible will be given to us.
------
I am writing this comment to express our true appreciation of an experience that my family had today. Our daughter had outpatient surgery and from the moment we stepped into the surgery unit there was nothing but a pleasant atmosphere by the staff. Our nurse, Linda was exceptional. She explained every single thing to my daughter and was kind and compassionate to my daughter, who was extremely nervous. We had a couple other nurses come in and check on our daughter and they too, were wonderful, pleasant and prompt. The surgery team was great. They were kind and took the time to ask my daughter what was bothering her or making her so nervous and what they could do to help fix it, or make it better for her. Thank you so much for the great job. It made this procedure so much easier on everyone, my daughter (first and foremost), my husband and myself. GREAT JOB. You are truly appreciated.
------
My husband and I just became first time parents. We just wanted to say that we could not have picked a better place to experience the best day of our lives. Your OB staff is the most caring and concerned group of people I have ever met. It felt more like family the entire time I was a patient. All your nurses were great. I had the privilage of having Trish, Deborah, Tresa, Crissy, Sandy and Sue. The techs Colleen and (I believe her name is) Sandy were great and so helpful. I can't say thank you enough for such a great experience.
The food and nutrition staff were extremely friendly . . . I never felt like we were a bother and the food was very tasty. My husband enjoyed the complimentary tray, which is a very nice gesture. Don, in your department was very helpful, and had great advice on what was good. Thank you. I also work for a BJC hospital and just want you to know -- from being on the patient side -- your facility is well-above average. Thanks again.
------
I arrived at Progress West as an emergency admission followed by subsequent surgery and discharge after spending 10 days there. I am so impressed with PWHC that I wanted to write you regarding my stay there. PWHC meets and exceeds whatever standards are used to rate hospitals. As a health professional I found myself in a rather unique position; a health professional/patient. It was easy to see each discipline involved in my care working as a smooth, well-oiled, cohesive team to get me better and moved to discharge. I took note of the system where all things pertaining to the patient such as the chart, meds, charging on the online computer was in the individual patient's room. I felt secure in the knowledge that medication errors at PWHC are probably near obsolete. I felt as if I were in a high-class restaurant, ordering my meals on demand when I wanted to eat and having my meals delivered by pleasant, clean dietary staff. Even the housekeeping staff was pleasant and made me feel safe in my environment.
------
I can't express how wonderful my experience was having my first baby at Progress West. We were treated with such kindness, encouraging words and loads of information (great information from medical to personal experience and advice). Every nurse and tech I had felt like friends when they walked in and best friends when the shift changed. I can't think of anything I would change. Everything was perfect. I will highly recommend Progrfess West to anyone having a baby. You would be crazy if you didn't take advantage of the miracle experience of having a baby at such a wonderful hospital. I don't want to leave anyone out because they were all great, but special thanks to Cori, Sandy, Tresa, Pam and Briana.
------
I had two bronchoscopys at Progress West and it was overall, a pleasant experience. I was overly pleased with the nursing staff. Each and every one of them were very caring, knowledgeable and comforting.
------
I was in your Hospital for surgery and it was the best hospital experience. From the excellent food and all the nursing staff. Everyone was friendly and willing to do whatever they could to make my experience the best it could possibly be. A very special thanks to Kelly, Walt, Tracy and Kim. They were always there comforting me and caring.
------
I recently had a baby and just wanted to say that . . . I love your Hospital. My labor nurse Sandy was amazing. I had a great experience there and I will definitely have my next child at Progress West. I would recommend this Hospital to anyone.
Thank you for making the most amazing day of my life so wonderful and comfortable. Your staff in Labor and Delivery is amazing.
------
My wife just gave birth to our fist son in your Hospital. The service we recieved was the BEST I have ever experienced in any hospital. During a long and difficult labor and after, the staff, especially Cori, Tresa, Kelly, Gail and Brianna were so very helpful and caring. I couldnt imagine getting through the process without them. And now we have a beautiful, healthy baby boy. Your catering staff was wonderful as well, the food was very nice.
Again I'd like to thank you on behalf of my family for a wonderful experience.

On Father's Day weekend, we had an occasion to try the new Progress West hospital and their Emergency Department. We now live pretty close to the Hospital and that Saturday morning, my husband had a blackout experience sitting at our kitchen table. He came to quickly but knew we needed to get to an emergency room. Everyone was great from the registration area to the doctors, nurses and techs. They kept him throughout the weekend and our family got to celebrate Father's Day in the lobby visiting area. On Monday he had several tests, including doppler, echocardiogram and treadmill stress test. He did not pass the treadmill test and was then taken to Missouri Baptist Medical Center and needed two stents. All this was accidental, since we found out the blackout was not associated with the heart blockages. The whole experience starting at Progress West was very reassuring and good for him. After working for 28 years at Christian Hospital and knowing so many qualified employees, it was hard to trust everyone at a new place where we knew no one. All of the nurses were excellent and we are very thankful.
------
From the patient's wife . . .
My husband was a patient at Progress West several times this winter and spring. He died recently. He wanted me to let you know of his feelings about his care and especially the people with whom he came into contact. From aides to nurses to technicians, specialists and kitchen staff, they made his last months as pleasant as was possible.
I wish I knew all their names . . . Rob, the respiratory tech; Dr. Niemann-Royer and everyone in the Emergency Department; Don in Food Service; the pharmacist, dietician and physical therapist.
The Hospital is state-of-the-art, but it is the way the people working there handle their patients that make it great. Please don't ever change.
From the patient's daughter . . .
My father was admitted to your facility several times over the last year and passed recently. I wanted to pass on some comments and observations as a family member and as a nurse for over 18 years who worked at several area hospitals. I left nursing 10 years ago, mainly because of the direction hospitals and health care seemed to be moving.
Progress West is different and I know a very difficult model to keep alive. However, you are on the right track and, had your Hospital been the norm, I may still be in nursing and possibly not dreading inevitable trips to a hospital.
There were several employees that made my dad's stays better each time he was there and they stand out as efficient, caring and patient individuals who should be rewarded with a "thank you." Unfortunately, I didn't always get names and the last day we were there was very sketchy, but hopefully you can decifer who some of these people were that need to be thanked. Mo Wehmeyer (nurse), Rob (respiratory), Nellie Pepper (food services), and Bond (housekeeping) are just a few I remember well. Your staff appears to honestly care about both the patients and their families and that is rare.
Take care of the employees, thank them often and keep them feeling important and engaged. Happy employees make happy patients and families. I implore you to continue providing the type of environment that enables your exceptional employees to do what they do well.
------
I can't say enough good things about Progress West and St. Louis Children's Hospital. They saved my 7-year old's life. We tried going to an urgent care center but he was still terribly ill. We called the after-hours nurse and she advised us to get him to the nearest Emergency Department. We drove to Progress West and they saw him right away. We were there right before a shift change but they never dropped the ball.
The two Children's pediatricians, Dr. Jonathan and Dr. Sarah kept us involved and informed. Heidi, the pediatric nurse (and all the nurses) did a wonderful job. They immediately treated him and subsequently determined he would need more extensive care so they arranged for a transfer to St. Louis Children's Hospital. Tommy was there for six days. Both doctors, Jonathan and Sarah, and the transport team followed up with us to inquire about how he was doing.
I recently took my other son to the ED and Dr. Jonathan was there again. Even in my ball cap he still recognized me and asked about Tommy. Progress West just did everything right. We never sat and wondered; they kept in constant communication with us. I now tell everyone I know if they have a child who is ill or injured, they need to go to Progress West.
------
Thank you for your gentleness and professionalism with our son. You made our dreaded experience of having tubes put in his ears tolerable. We followed Dr. Wild's suggestion to come to your hospital due to the nurturance you provide for children. He was right. You catered to his needs as a one-year-old as well as my needs as a concerned mother.
I'd like to note that I left your care feeling good about that early morning procedure and raved to my husband about our personal and sincere treatment during our short visit. It was a wonderful surprise a week later when a hand-written card arrived for Drake.
This experience has made an impression on us. Though we do not anticipate having future hospital visits with either of our children, it gives me great pleasure knowing we can count on you and your staff for our medical needs. Thank you so much for caring about your patients and making each one of them feel special.

Note: The writer of this particular fan mail letter lives in St. Paul, Missouri, north of Interstate 70.
I wanted to take a few minutes to express my gratitude for the superior care I recently received in your facility.
I was admitted recently for induction of labor. Every experience I had in your hospital proves that you have gone the extra mile to hire friendly, caring, and experienced professionals.
From the admitting desk in the ED to the food service people through Dining on Call, every person I dealt with during my birthing and hospital stay were pleasant, helpful, and concerned with my comfort and happiness.
I would like to especially recognize the nursing staff in the OB ward. Three main nurses attended to my care during my stay in the hospital. Tresa and Rhonda were the two main nurses that helped me through my labor, and Deborah was my post partum nurse.
During my labor, the baby started to exhibit signs of distress, but Tresa was right there to reassure us when we started worrying that something wasn't right.
After the baby was born, Tresa was a HUGE help to me. This was my first try at breastfeeding and I needed a great deal of help with everything. Tresa showed me several different positions and gave me some tips and tricks to help with the process. The baby ended up with a tummy ache and Tresa came to the rescue with some tips on how to help relieve the baby's pain. At this point, we were ready to pack Tresa up and take her home with us!
The last night that I was in the hospital, I had some issues with nursing. Deborah and Tresa helped me through and Deborah even suggested that we stay long enough the next day to get an additional feeding or two in while she was there to assist.
All three nurses were amazing. The anesthesiologist that did my epidural was awesome and I was impressed that he came in a couple of times after the epidural was in so that he could make sure I was still comfortable. He even came back after the baby was born to make sure that everything was okay, my pain level was tolerable, and to congratulate us on the birth of our baby.
I have had multiple surgeries and hospital stays over the years, but I have never experienced the level of care that I received at Progress West. I have already recommended your facility to several people, one of which has decided to deliver at your hospital in September.
------
I was in Lake St. Louis on business (a five-hour drive from my home) the week of April 8 and staying at a hotel near your Hospital. On Wednesday, April 9, I came into your Emergency Department covered in red welts and with extreme difficulty in breathing. Long story short . . . I was admitted and stayed until April 13 in your fine facility. I am most impressed with the Hospital in general and ALL of the staff that I came in contact with. I saw four different doctors and countless nurses, techs and therapists while under your care. I have never been treated with such respect in a hospital, nor received better care. Once I began recovering, I was even impressed with the food -- it is restaurant quality. Being so far from home and requiring hospitalization is a bit overwhelming, but thanks to the caring people employed at Progress West, I felt they truly cared. Also, this may seem minor, but it was such a blessing to have a shower available in the bathroom. I thank God that I was directed to your facility and that He blesses each and every one of you.
------
I just wanted to thank all of my nurses during my stay at Progress West. Best hospital stay I have ever had. Wonderful rooms, attentive nursing staff, and excellent food. A hospital with excellent food? You don't find that often (athough the ward has better coffee). Special thanks to Jamie (my favorite nurse). What a special lady.Thank to all.
------
I had my very first surgery experience and hospital stay this week. I want to compliment all of the staff for their exemplary service and attention to detail. They made me feel like I was the only one at the hospital. Thank you for doing just an absolutely wonderful job. I've never seen such kindness and compassion.
------
I just wanted to take the time to let you know how extremely satisfied my experience was with your hospital and staff.
I gave birth to my son January 18 and from the time I was admitted, every person we came into contact with was very warm and caring. The nurses you have go beyond what is expected. One rubbed my feet and another nurse stroked my hair. These little things mean the world to me. They did whatever was needed for me to be comfortable. Even the food service staff . . . they paid attention to when you last ordered or called when they were closing to see if you wanted something else to eat.
I would also like to mention a nurse that deserves a huge gold star . . . Danae. She was so awesome, caring, nurturing, outgoing . . . the list could go on. I wish everyone could come into contact with a nurse as wonderful as Danae. You are lucky to have her.
Until I am a returning patient, I will be telling all my friends about your hospital.
------
Mr. B. called to compliment on the "excellent" experience his family had at PWHC yesterday. His wife was at the dialysis center on Highway K, she was told to come here for an X-ray. He said the "lady that checked them in" was pleasant, helpful and efficient; he said Jennifer in Radiology was wonderful and the overall experience was excellent. He said we are now his family's facility of choice.
------
On Monday, January 7 (about 2 a.m.) I had to bring my 3-year-old daughter to the Emergency Department. She was awakened by the storms and came into our bedroom because she was scared. When she came into our room, she tripped and fell striking her chin on the bed frame. She had a cut on her chin that needed stitches.
So we packed up and came to your ED. We were immediately greeted by a wonderfully friendly and compassionate receptionist. I feel horrible that I can't remember her name but she was wonderful. I'm sure you can look up who was working that morning and pass it along. We were immediately placed in to a room and greeted by Laurie our RN. She was also extremely friendly and courteous considering the time of morning. She doted on my daughter and made her feel comfortable and assured that everything was going to be OK. She brought her popsicles and helped her find cartoons on the TV. Dr. Carlos was next. She was also equally friendly and compassionate and assured my daughter that everything was going to be OK. Between the RN and MD they were able to place four stitches without a single tear shed!
I think this is a testament to the outstanding staff you have working at your hospital. They took what is normally a very traumatic experience for a child that young and, through compassion and a gentle touch, turned it into a event worth bragging about. My daughter actually struts and shows anyone who will look, the "boo boo" on her chin.
Please pass along to your staff what an outstanding experience we had at your facility. Your hospital and staff didn't practice medicine that night. They took care of us with a true and genuine touch that you would normally expect to be reserved for family. I can't say thank you enough.

I just wanted to tell you about the wonderful (well, considering) experience we had in your ED on New Year's Eve. We brought my 87-year-old father in with hernia problems. It was a horrible way to spend New Year's Eve, but your staff actually made the experience alsmost enjoyable. They were pleasant, professional and did everything they could to keep us posted every step of the way. My father will be having surgery in your hospital this Friday. We're waiting until Friday because we didn't want to do it in any other hospital.

I had surgery on November 16 at this hospital. The staff was wonderful and very understanding. Very prompt on assisting with my needs while I was there. Everyone was so wonderful. When needing someone in my room. Someone came right away. Ordering my meals was easy and the staff was very helpful. I would pick this hospital for anything in the future and if I needed to have surgery again. The staff made you feel good while feeling not so good. Thanks again for being so wonderful.

Part 1: On Monday July 9, I brought my daughter to the Progress West Emergency Department. Just a note to let you know, we received the best care we have ever experienced. The staff was very professional, caring and sensitive to my daughter's pain and needs. They treated me like I was a patient too. We have been in and out of several hospitals over the last three years, with a number of health concerns she continues to have. We have seen and experienced several emergency room operations. None come even close to the standards of Progress West. She was admitted for three days and received the same level of professional, caring treatment as in the Emergency Department. So many medical care providers seem to simply not really care about someone in pain. Just shove them in and out like cattle. You should be very proud of both your ED employees and those on the third floor. They're the best! Thank you so much.
Part 2: Earlier today I sent a note about the wonderful care my daughter received last week as a patient. I failed to make special mention of some of the staff, whose names I managed to collect while she was a patient. Please relay my special thanks for the treatment, understanding and professional care she received from Trish, Dr. Robert Wiele, Shawn and an RN named Isenhower thanks to and Linda. I'm sure others contributed to her care and I thank them as well. I was just not able to get all the names of the third floor staff. They are the best. As I noted in my first communication, she received the best care we have ever experienced. Thank you all very much.

Besides the fact that my mom had to be admitted, the Progress West experience was great in every aspect. Every single person smiled and said hello all the way to the housekeeping gentleman. Every one gave 100 percent to help take our minds off of why we were here. A smile goes a long way in healing. When dealing with yourself, use your mind. When dealing with others, use your heart. Progress West does just that.

On Saturday, April 7, my 3-year-old daughter was sick. I decided to take her to the new hospital just up the road from us. When seeing the St. Louis Children's Hospital emergency sign, I must admit I felt comfort from the name. Immediately upon entering the Emergency Department I was greeted by Caleb. He triaged us and actually got my daughter to talk to him even though she was crying. Then we met Jeanna the RN. Very nice, very outgoing, just wonderful. I love the fact Jeanna first asked my daughter what was hurting her even though she is 3 . . . and not asking me. I just filled in the blanks. Next was Dr. Sterni who was so caring. We were taken care of completely by the entire team.
But going the extra mile doest not stop with us leaving the Emergency Department. After I got the prescriptions filled, I did not think they were correct. The pharmacist assured us they were. I called the Emergency Department to get clarification. Dr. Sterni got on the phone with us and called the pharmacy to correct the situation. She called us back to let us know she took care of it. She didn't have to call us back, but she did. She could have originally told us she would just call in a new prescription.
I want to say THANK YOU to Calab, Jeanna and Dr. Sterni for being so kind. I know we were their patients while in the Emergency Department but it was very reassuring to know we were still their patients even after we left. I will let everyone know how caring your hospital staff is.

I was in the ED about two weeks ago. Being that I have never been in the hospital other than having my children, I was a little nervous. I had the most wonderful experience there. Everyone was so friendly from the time I walked in the door until I left 11 hours and a blood transfusion later. Even the next day there was some confusion with my follow-up doctor so I came back to the ED. Some of the employees even came out to see how I was doing. We got the doctor situation resolved and I left. I would recommend this hospital to anyone. I am actually trying to get a job there in Admissions. Thank you so much for making my visit there such a pleasure.
