PWHC Laboratory Team: Elevating Awareness to a Whole New Level
The Progress West laboratory team took National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week to a new level with recognition activities to educate staff about current procedures, address frequently asked questions and spotlight laboratory personnel.
"National Laboratory Medical Professionals Week is an opportunity to reflect on why we chose this career, take collective and individual pride in our contribution to providing our patients with safe, courteous, accurate and efficient health care and increase employees' understanding and appreciation for laboratory professionals," says Marnell Dickson, laboratory manager. "We wanted to increase communication, put a face with the voice heard on the other end of the phone, open dialogue about the pre-analytical components of laboratory testing, and increase understanding of how these factors impact the quality of the test report."
Throughout the week, the lab sent out daily e-mail communications to Hospital employees and held an open house.
"We had a great turnout. The tours provided an excellent opportunity for questions and answers and the lab staff discussed issues and conducted demonstrations," says Dickson.
